The Association of Research Libraries Board of Directors ratified the election of Vice Provost and University of Texas Libraries Director Lorraine J. Haricombe as incoming vice president/president-elect of ARL at the organization’s fall meeting.
The Alexander Architectural Archives has acquired the archive of Volz & Associates, Inc. The collection contains material spanning over 40 years of architecture, interior design and consultation work focusing primarily on preserving and restoring historic buildings and interiors, with an emphasis on notable buildings in Texas.
A little over a year after Hurricane Harvey cause significant damage to the Marine Science Insitute at Port Aransas, the Marine Sciene Library was finally able to reopen this fall, and staff recently reconnected with the community through their temporarily-suspended holiday party.
A new series at Tex Libris — “Illuminating Explorations” — presents digital exhibits and celebrates UT Libraries collections in small-scale form. The exhibits will highlight unique materials to elevate awareness of a broad range of content. “Illuminating Explorations” will be created and released over time, with the intent of encouraging use of featured and related items, both digital and analog, in support of new inquiries, discoveries, enjoyment and further exploration.

Eighty-five years after its original opening, the Hall of Texas in the historic Main Building at The University of Texas at Austin has been returned to its essential purpose as a contemplative space for visitors to the library at the heart of the Forty Acres.
The Texas Archival Resources Online (TARO) consortium and the University of Texas Libraries have received a grant of $348,359 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to enhance their efforts to provide researchers worldwide with access to collection descriptions of archival primary sources in libraries, archives and museums across Texas.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded a Documenting Endangered Languages Preservation Grant of $227,365 to Patience Epps and Susan Smythe Kung of the Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America (AILLA) for support of their upcoming project entitled “Archiving Significant Collections of Endangered Languages: Two Multilingual Regions of Northwestern South America.”

In collaboration With the Thoma Foundation and the Blanton Museum of Art, LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections is pleased to announce a call/ call for proposals for the grants Thoma for Research in Virreinal Arte Latinoamericano (Thoma Visiting Scholars in Spanish Colonial Art). The Scholarships Thoma will fund short-term visits for six scholars to conduct research on South American colonial art based on a long-term loan to the Blanton by the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation.
