The Global Studies Digital Projects Graduate Research Assistant supports project management for new digital collections and digital scholarship projects in area/international/global studies. Current and past projects include digitizing European Cold War content at the LBJ Library, building a crowdsourcing platform to collect information for a South Asian photograph collection, writing scripts for Natural Language Processing on non-English texts, and supporting the development of a local OCR solution for Arabic periodicals. Students in this position are encouraged to share their insights and expertise by writing for the UT Libraries TexLibris blog, and/or by co-teaching workshops on tools for area studies digital scholarship.

 

POSITION AVAILABLE: August 16, 2024. Position is subject to renewal each semester.  

 

WORK SCHEDULE: 20 hours/week, as arranged with supervisor: Monday through Friday.



DUTIES: Serve as project manager for new digital collections and/or digital scholarship projects in the fields of area, international and global studies.  Work with librarians and others to identify relevant collections and shepherd them through the digitization and access processes.  Help initiate and develop promotional materials for new and existing collections. Contribute to departmental digital curriculum development. Assist with departmental projects as needed.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate student in good academic standing in the School of Information AND/OR any international/area studies-affiliated program, enrolled for at least three [3] semester hours for summer session and nine [9] semester hours for each long semester (fall and spring semesters). Experience with or interest in area/international/global studies. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate school coursework with a focus on information resources and services or area/international/global studies. Knowledge of or experience with digital archiving. Knowledge of or experience with text processing. Knowledge of or experience with open source digital asset management. Non-English language competency

WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular indoor working conditions.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: $1733 per month. Exemption from non-resident tuition. Benefits eligible. TRB is not available for this position for long semesters.
