The recent decades have seen unprecedented interest in the history of Middle Eastern/West Asian/Islamic libraries. Much of the scholarship has focused on a wide range of documents: from endowment deeds, ownership notes and inventories.
Join us Monday, April 21, from 12-2 pm in PCL Learning Lab 3 for The Library of Ahmad Pasha al-Jazzar: A Reading Workshop. In this workshop with Dr. Guy Burak (Librarian for Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies at NYU), participants will look at several eighteenth-century inventories from the Arabic-speaking provinces of the Ottoman Empire and explore potential uses of these documents for the intellectual, political and legal history of the Middle East and, more broadly, the Islamic world.
This in-person workshop is free and open to the public.
Location: PCL Learning Lab 3, PCL 2.350
