The University of Texas Libraries has opened nominations for members at large to join its Student Library Advisory Council. Council members are an active voice in the UT Libraries decision-making process — they represent student needs and preferences to create the best library experience possible and help maintain effective communication channels between their peers and UT Libraries.
The Student Library Advisory Council is made up of members at large as well as representatives from Student Government, the Senate of College Councils and the Graduate Student Assembly. Council members share ideas for how to best reach students with information about library programs; offer feedback on what is working well and areas for improvement across UT Libraries; and provide input on current and future library services and spaces.
In addition to providing valuable input on the student library experience, council members benefit in multiple ways, including the following:
- Influencing the future of UT Libraries
- Learning about academically beneficial services and resources at UT Libraries
- Gaining resume-worthy leadership experience on a University-wide committee
Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students, and members at large are chosen through a self-nomination process. To nominate yourself, complete this brief form that asks for contact information and a statement on why you would be a good candidate for the group by Sept. 4.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, students who are selected for membership on the council will attend six catered lunch meetings at noon at the Perry-Castañeda Library on the following Wednesdays: Sept. 30, Oct. 28, Dec. 2, Jan. 27, Feb. 24 and March 31.
