Position is subject to renewal each semester.

Work Schedule:   Monday through Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; 12-15 hours per week, schedule as arranged with supervisor. Position has potential to be renewed on a semesterly basis.

Duties: The Digitization Student Technical Assistant will work with UT Libraries’ Digitization Services to provide specialized reformatting and scanning of UTL collection materials. Digitization of rare, fragile, obsolete, or oversized materials and formats allows for increased access to these valuable research materials and can serve as a crucial preservation tool.

Tasks include reformatting print or audiovisual materials using a range of equipment and scanners, encoding and transcoding digital output, multiple stages of quality control, as well as metadata management and detailed task tracking. For SUMMER 2026, the majority of work will be with digitizing bound print materials and performing optical character recognition tasks. All stages of work require extreme attention to detail and the ability to remain focused while performing repetitive tasks. 

Training on hardware and software is provided and will increase in complexity as the Assistant’s skills increase over time.

Required Qualifications: UT Austin student enrolled in minimum of 6 credits for the Spring 2026 semester.  Assistants in UTL Digitization Services should have the ability to work independently and demonstrate a positive attitude, extreme attention to detail, care in handling fragile and rare research materials and equipment, strong organizational skills, willingness to learn and work with a range of computer and scanning hardware environments & software applications, and remain focused while performing repetitive tasks. They should also enjoy creative problem solving and taking on new and increasingly challenging projects. No prior digitization experience is required.

We want to emphasize that although experience in certain areas is desirable, candidates who meet the required qualifications and demonstrate excellent promise are encouraged to apply and will be given serious consideration.

Working Conditions: Regular indoor working conditions.

Rate of Pay: $15.00
