POSITION AVAILABLE: August 16, 2026. Position is subject to renewal each semester.
WORK SCHEDULE: Variable but requires at least two evening shifts (6pm to 10pm) including weekends for a total of 20 hours/week.
DUTIES:
- Providing research assistance to individuals at the Perry-Castañeda Library Desk.
- Answering chat (IM) and email research questions.
- Referring users to appropriate staff from the Libraries and other campus learning support services and scheduling appointments for research consultations.
- Preparing research guides (LibGuides) and tutorials on the use of library and learning support resources.
- Providing basic technical support for on-site hardware and software.
- Providing information literacy instruction in lower division courses.
- Providing research consultations for undergraduate researchers and mentoring library student workers. Interns may create instructional content and tutorials for the web or inclusion in Canvas.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate student with knowledge of Latin American, U.S. Latina/o and/or Black Diaspora studies.
- Enrolled for at least nine [9] semester hours during the fall and spring semester and three [3] semester hours during the summer session.
- Student must be in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a library. Reference experience and/or coursework in reference service.
- Strong commitment to service. Ability to evaluate, understand, and respond to research questions by utilizing knowledge of library resources.
- Interest in academic librarianship.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.
We want to emphasize that although experience in certain areas is desirable, candidates who meet the required qualifications and demonstrate excellent promise are encouraged to apply and will be given serious consideration.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular indoor working conditions.
SALARY/BENEFITS: $1733 per month. Exemption from non-resident tuition. Benefits eligible. TRB is not available for this position for long semesters.
