Data Lab, Perry-Castañeda Library
With the proliferation of digital collections, there is a growing interest in using automatic data mining methods to analyze and visualize large corpora of texts for new insight. Jennifer Isasi (CLIR/DLF Postdoctoral Fellow in Data Curation) will teach the basics on how to explore and discover overarching themes in texts using Mallet, a topic modeling tool. Participants will explore a dataset derived from digitized collections at the Benson and partner institutions that cover violence in Guatemala.
Lunch will be served. Space is limited to 15. Registration closes Tuesday, September 25 at 12 p.m., through Eventbrite.
