All University of Texas Libraries materials may be returned to the circulation desk from which they were checked out. Return receipts are available upon request. For borrowers' convenience, each of the University Libraries, except Architecture/Planning, has book returns available for use both during and after hours. Materials returned after a circulation desk closes may not be checked in until the next day the library is open. Recalled items are due by the recall due date before the circulation desk closes.
Some materials must be returned only to the desk from which they were checked out. These are:
Materials other than the exceptions above may be returned to any library's book return or at drive-up book returns. Book returns are regularly cleared; nevertheless, returning books to a book return will delay their being checked in and may result in fines if the books are returned after the last time the book return is cleared for the day.
*The University of Texas Libraries and the Tarleton Law Library are separate entities. Return each library's materials to the owning library.
Restrictions are posted on the book returns. Signs indicating that the book returns are closed may also be posted during holiday periods. During holiday periods when these returns are closed, books not listed in the above restricted list may be returned to any library's book return.
One return is located west of the Perry-Castañeda Library in the one-way alley off 21st Street between the University Christian Church and the University Teaching Center (UTC). As you proceed south, the book return is on the left.
Directly behind this book return is a second book return for use by pedestrians and wheelchair users.
A second drive-up book return is located on the north end of campus. The return is located on the south side of Dean Keeton Street between Speedway and San Jacinto streets. It is accessible to pedestrians at street level between Ernest Cockerell Jr. Hall and Robert Lee Moore Hall (RLM) and to vehicles driving through the parking and delivery area behind RLM.
A third return is located in the central part of campus near the Main Building (the Tower). It is in the circle drive between the Flawn Academic Center (FAC) and the Main Building. The return is at the bottom of the steps at the west entrance to FAC.
A fourth drive-up return is located on the Pickle Research Campus, on the northwest side of the Library Storage Facility, building 176. This return is intended for use by borrowers at PRC who wish to return books to the main campus. Access to the PRC requires a University permit. The return is cleared once each weekday morning. Books deposited after the return is cleared will not be checked in until the next weekday.
Please remember that books remain your responsibility until they are received and checked in at a circulation desk. If you are out of town, avoid late charges by maintaining your current email and postal mail address with the University, keeping up with the status of the materials you have checked out, and allowing sufficient time for return by mail.
University Mail Service does not provide delivery of books borrowed from the Libraries. If you are on campus, return materials to one of the Libraries book returns or an appropriate service desk.
