Event: Research + Pizza features Joseph Potter discussing his research into women’s healthcare legislation. The event is free and open to the public.
When: Noon, Wednesday, February 6, 2013
Where: The University of Texas at Austin, Perry-Castañeda Library, Room 2.500 (map).
Background: Dr. Joseph Potter — Professor of Sociology and researcher at the university’s Population Research Center — discusses the impact of reduced state funding for women’s health services in Texas.
Potter is in the midst of a three-year study — The Texas Policy Evaluation Project — to evaluate legislation affecting reproductive health enacted in the 2011 Texas Legislative Session. Provisions in the state budget bill cut support for family planning by two-thirds, and a budget rider placed restrictions on the reauthorization of Texas’s Medicaid waiver program (Texas Women’s Health Program). The project involves collaborators at Ibis Reproductive Health at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and will focus especially on the health of low-income and minority women in Texas.
Free Pizza (while it lasts) generously provided by program supporter Austin’s Pizza.
Research + Pizza a lunchtime lecture series featuring research presentations by faculty from across the university.
